About This Audiobook

Amy Poehler doesn’t just tell you how to be funny—she forces you to laugh while telling you. *Yes Please* is a masterclass in self-deprecation disguised as a late-night confessional, where the Parks and Recreation alum bares her career, her marriage, and her obsession with Demi Moore with the same ease she once delivered April Ludgate’s eye rolls. This isn’t a polished TED Talk; it’s a drunkish, meandering dinner party you sneak into after the host forgets to lock the door. Poehler’s writing thrives on contradiction: sharp enough to skewer Hollywood pretension, warm enough to make you feel like you’re hearing from that one friend who’s equal parts supportive and chaotic. The audiobook leans into the chaos, threading in cameos that feel less like gimmicks and more like proof that Poehler’s charm is contagious—Carol Burnett’s wry wisdom, Kathleen Turner’s velvety authority, and Mike Schur’s nerdy enthusiasm all collide in a way that somehow feels scripted by fate. The result is an audiobook that’s as unfiltered as a post-3 AM text from a brilliant best friend.

Editor's Review ★★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

Let’s address the elephant in the room: Amy Poehler can’t *not* be likable, and neither can this audiobook. Her narration is a revelation—less polished than an audiobook, more alive than a live stand-up set. She cracks up mid-sentence, deadpans absurdities, and somehow sells even her most cringe-inducing 20s-era journal entries with the conviction of someone who’s long since made peace with her past. The cameos are the real treasures: Carol Burnett’s cameo is a masterclass in vocal control, Kathleen Turner’s narration of a chapter about aging hits like a velvet hammer, and Mike Schur’s nerdy interjections feel like a bonus track you didn’t know you needed. That said, the audiobook stumbles when Poehler leans too hard into the “just me rambling” gimmick—several chapters drag as she over-explains jokes that land just fine without the preamble. The production is otherwise slick, though, with seamless transitions between voices and a runtime that flies by in the best ways. The only real misstep? The book’s structure feels like it’s still figuring out its tone—part memoir, part advice column, part roast session—which can make it feel disjointed. But if you’re here for Amy’s voice (literally and figuratively), you’ll forgive the hiccups.
