I’ll admit, I approached *Advent of the Apocalypse* with skepticism—another ‘end times’ fantasy? But within the first 30 minutes, Lewis had me hooked, not with slow-burn dread but with an opening so abrupt and violent it felt like a gut-punch. The world-building is sparse but *effective*: no lengthy expositions on how the Gates of Hell work, just the immediate, terrifying consequences. Cities vaporize. Survivors scramble. And the dragons? They’re not noble beasts or wise allies—they’re forces of nature, indifferent to human suffering, which makes them far more terrifying than any villain with a monologue. Berkrot’s narration is a standout, though not without flaws. His ability to convey raw panic during the action sequences is phenomenal—you *feel* the heat of the fireblasts in his voice. But his character distinctions occasionally blur, especially among the secondary cast, where a few too many gruff, gravelly tones start to sound identical. The pacing is another double-edged sword: the relentless momentum is thrilling, but the lack of breathing room means some emotional beats get lost in the chaos. That said, the audio production is flawless—no distracting edits, no volume spikes, just a seamless descent into hell. If you love your fantasy with high stakes, higher body counts, and zero sentimental detours, this is your kind of apocalypse. Just don’t expect to sleep easily afterward.
