The story itself is classic Brown—over-the-top villains, contrived puzzles—but the bioethical core (overpopulation, genetic engineering) gives it unexpected weight. That said, the third-act twist strains credibility even by thriller standards, and Sienna Brooks’ character arc feels rushed. Still, the audiobook’s production is flawless: no distracting edits, and the subtle use of ambient sound (distant church bells, footsteps) during Florence scenes adds immersion without gimmickry. My only gripe? At 16 hours, the pacing drags in the middle—Brown’s love of exposition clashes with d’Aubigny’s deliberate cadence.
