I went into *Insight* expecting another forgettable teen fantasy, but Magee’s book hooked me faster than a love-struck incubus in a library. The narration by Virtual Voice is a standout—delivering snarky one-liners, eerie whispers, and urgent exposition with equal aplomb. The protagonist’s voice is distinct, her skepticism and growing curiosity palpable, while the supporting cast feels vivid enough to step off the page. My only quibble is that the middle act sags slightly under the weight of its own lore dumps, but Magee rights the ship with a third-act coup that’s as surprising as it is satisfying. If you’re craving a mystery where magic doesn’t just decorate the plot but actively shapes it, this is your next obsession. The production is sleek, the music cues hit at the right moments, and the pacing balances action with introspection better than most YA thrillers. Just don’t blame me when you stay up four hours past your bedtime to finish it.
