His narration is the audiobook’s secret weapon: a gravelly, weary tone that makes Adrien’s isolation palpable. When he snarls, ‘I don’t know how to be what they want,’ you *feel* the defeat in his voice. That said, the pacing stumbles in the second act. Harris rushes through some emotional beats, leaving Adrien’s relationships (especially with the love interest) underdeveloped. I wanted more scenes where we *see* their connection, not just hear about it after the fact. The production is clean, but the real standout is how Davis handles the quieter moments. There’s a scene where Adrien listens to a voicemail from his human best friend, and the way Davis’ voice breaks—just slightly—is heartbreaking. It’s these small details that make the audiobook worth your time, even if the plot occasionally feels uneven. My biggest critique? The ending. Without spoilers, it lands somewhere between bittersweet and abrupt, and I’m still not sure if that was brave or just unfinished.
