Sailing Deep

I’ll admit, I was skeptical when I first saw *Sailing Deep* labeled as both a military thriller and a shifter romance—aren’t those two flavors mutually exclusive? Turns out, Noah Harris makes them work like a well-oiled rifle and a perfect shot of espresso: they shouldn’t complement each other, but somehow, they do. Robert G. Davis’s narration is the secret weapon here. His voice has the kind of rough, lived-in quality that makes you believe every word, whether he’s barking orders over comms or whispering a confession in the dark. The few times his delivery slips—like a slight overemphasis on certain shifter growls—are so minor they barely register, and they’re more than forgiven by the sheer momentum of the story. The pacing is tight, but not at the expense of character depth. Dylan’s internal conflict—balancing his duty to the team with his growing fascination for the Shadow Pack’s alpha—feels achingly real, and the SEAL team’s banter lands without ever feeling like a distraction. That said, the romance threads in could’ve used a bit more subtlety; the emotional beats occasionally veer into melodrama territory, especially in the final act. Still, the audiobook’s strengths far outweigh its hiccups. By the time the credits roll (or in this case, the mission debrief), you’ll be left hungry for more—whether that’s Harris’s next book or another late-night listen of *Sailing Deep*.
