But *Uncharted Waters* pulled me under fast, thanks to Noah Harris’s razor-sharp character work and Robert G. Davis’s narration, which manages to be both a warm hug and a campfire ghost story. Davis’s Blake is a standout: his voice has that gravelly, *I’ve-seen-things* quality, but he softens it just enough when Blake’s talking to his daughter, making his protective streak feel earned, not performative. The chemistry between him and Dylan (voiced with a lighter, more hesitant tone) sells the history between them—you *hear* the years of inside jokes and lingering resentments in every exchange. The paranormal thread is where the audiobook shines brightest. Harris doesn’t just drop in spooky set pieces; the supernatural elements mirror the couple’s emotional state, blurring the line between external threat and internal fracture. A scene where Dylan wades into the water at night—with Davis’s voice dropping to a whisper—gave me actual chills. My only critique? The middle act drags slightly during a subplot about Blake’s estranged brother, which feels less integrated than the core mystery. And while Davis’s pacing is generally excellent, his female characters (especially the daughter) occasionally tip into *overly* breathy territory. But these are quibbles. The ending, a masterclass in bittersweet resolution, left me staring at my phone for a good five minutes.
