Oh No! There's an Incubus in My Hot Spring

I went into this audiobook expecting a lighthearted romp, and boy, did it deliver—but not in the way I anticipated. Amelia Mendez’s performance is *chef’s kiss* perfect, especially in the way she twists her voice to match the protagonist’s exasperation, the incubus’s smug self-assurance, and the various side characters’ quirks. The narration sells the humor, the steam, and even the occasional moment of vulnerability so well that I found myself laughing out loud (and occasionally groaning at the innuendo) while walking the dog. Holt’s writing is witty and self-aware, with a protagonist who’s refreshingly unapologetic about her flaws—her impulsive decisions, her messy rebound energy, and her *very* complicated relationship with a demon who’s basically a chaotic neutral roommate. The pacing is tight, though I did find myself wishing for a little more depth in the world-building by the midpoint; the Colorado setting felt underutilized, and the competition’s motives could’ve used a bit more fleshing out to avoid feeling like a one-note obstacle. Still, the chemistry between the leads—human and demon alike—is electric, and the audiobook’s runtime flies by. My one real critique? The narration occasionally stumbles over some of the more awkwardly worded lines, pulling me out of the story for a split second. But that’s a minor nitpick in an otherwise thoroughly enjoyable listen.
