Kaminsky’s worldbuilding is deceptively simple: a coastal village where teens are forced to declare their life mate at 17, with no take-backs. The horror isn’t in the rule itself but in how casually everyone accepts it—except Marei, who’s been hollowed out by her sweetheart’s drowning years earlier. Her blank Binding paper isn’t a plot twist; it’s the first honest thing she’s done in years. Mendez’s performance sells it. She doesn’t *act* Marei’s grief—she *embodies* it, her voice thinning to a whisper during flashbacks of the drowning, then hardening when Marei faces the village’s judgment. The production is clean, though I wished for more atmospheric sound design (the ocean’s absence in key scenes feels like a missed opportunity). My biggest critique? The second act sags when the story pivots to a new love interest; the chemistry feels rushed compared to the slow-burn devastation of Marei’s past. Still, the ending��ambiguous, bittersweet—lingers like the taste of salt. This isn’t a love story. It’s a story about what love costs, and who gets left behind when the tide goes out.
