His Rezkin is a revelation: a voice that’s calm when others panic, terrifying when others preen, and darkly amused by the absurdity of it all. That said, the middle act drags slightly—Kade’s strength is in set pieces and dialogue, not political maneuvering, and a few subplots (like the royal family’s infighting) feel like obligatory fantasy padding. The combat scenes, however, are *flawless*, a blend of tactical precision and visceral audio immersion. Podehl’s pacing during fights is particularly impressive; he doesn’t just read the action, he *times* it, letting silences and sharp inhales heighten the impact. My only real critique?
