I’ll admit, I approached *Sweet Dreams* with skepticism—I’ve heard enough Christian romances where the faith moments feel like checkboxes rather than convictions. But Dowdy’s writing hooked me early with Misty’s unglamorous struggles: the late-night worry sessions, the way her hands ache from scrubbing floors while dreaming of owning a bakery, the way her daughter’s laughter becomes her compass. The audiobook’s narration by Virtual Voice is a mixed bag. On one hand, it’s impressively consistent, its voice modulating with the right blend of warmth and gravitas to match Misty’s journey from exhausted single mom to cautiously hopeful entrepreneur. On the other, the synthetic cadence sometimes flattens the emotional beats—when Misty’s voice cracks during a heartfelt prayer, the lack of organic quiver made it feel a tad too polished. That said, the pacing is a standout, moving briskly enough to avoid melodrama but lingering just long enough on the quiet moments to let the faith themes breathe. My biggest critique? The love interest, a widowed pastor named Eli, occasionally veers into saintly territory. His patience with Misty’s skepticism is inspiring, but by the midpoint, I found myself wishing he’d stumble into relatable flaws instead of always being the paragon of kindness. That quibble aside, *Sweet Dreams* delivers exactly what it promises: a tender, uplifting romance where love and faith grow hand-in-hand, flaws and all.
