About This Audiobook

Harold Robbins' 'The Dream Merchants' is a gripping, no-holds-barred journey into the seedy underbelly of post-WWII America. It's a tale of two men, Johnny Edge and Peter Kessler, who defy their humble beginnings to chase the American Dream. Edge, a former carnival barker, is a ruthless schemer, while Kessler trades small-town stability for the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. Paul Costanzo's narration is a standout, bringing each character's cunning and desperation to life with a gritty, authentic edge. This isn't your typical thriller; it's a distinctive blend of suspense, drama, and social commentary that keeps you hooked until the very end.

Editor's Review ★★★★

AudioBook Atlas

I was immediately drawn into 'The Dream Merchants' by its unapologetic portrayal of ambition and the moral compromises it demands. Costanzo's narration is exceptional, his ability to switch between characters and accents seamless. He imbues each character with a distinct voice, making it easy to distinguish between the cunning Edge and the more naive Kessler. The pacing is excellent, balancing moments of intense suspense with slower, character-driven scenes. My only critique is that some of the plot twists feel a tad predictable, but Robbins' sharp social commentary more than makes up for it. This is a gripping listen that will keep you up at night, not just for the suspense, but for the thought-provoking questions it raises about the cost of success.
