Anne Valliere’s narration is the secret weapon here, transforming what could’ve been a lightweight YA mystery into something far more immersive. Her delivery nails the duality of Abby’s voice—equal parts cynical teen and reluctant detective—without veering into nasality or exaggerated drama. She nails the comedic timing of Abby’s sarcastic asides, then drops the pitch when the tension ratchets up, especially during the chilling scene where Abby stumbles upon the crime in the prop closet. The production is crisp, with subtle sound design (the echo of empty theaters, the clatter of backstage doors) that subtly underscores the isolation of the setting. If I had one critique, it’s that the secondary characters occasionally blur together—not in voice, but in presence. A few more distinguishing quirks (a lisp, a nervous tic) would’ve helped differentiate the ensemble cast. And while the pacing never drags, the final act wraps a little too neatly for my taste; the emotional fallout from the reveal feels truncated. Still, these are minor quibbles in a tightly plotted, voice-driven mystery that’s as fun as it is dark. Fans of *Truly Devious* or *One of Us Is Lying* will find a lot to love, but Plott carves out her own niche—where the stage isn’t just a setting, but a character in its own right.
