Jonathan Cecil’s performance is so perfectly attuned to Wodehouse’s tone that I initially wondered if the author himself had been reincarnated as a narrator. His Bertie is a masterclass in affable incompetence—every stammer, every groan at Jeeves’ latest savior move lands with comedic precision. The supporting cast, from the perpetually flustered Gussie to the imperious Aunt Dahlia, all get distinct voices without veering into caricature. The pacing is brisk, but Cecil never sacrifices clarity for speed, even when Wodehouse’s dialogue whips into rapid-fire banter. That said, the audiobook’s biggest strength—its relentless humor—can occasionally feel like too much of a good thing. A few scenes drag when the jokes pile up without breathing room, and the rural accents occasionally veer toward parody. Still, these are minor quibbles in an otherwise sparkling adaptation. If you’ve ever wanted to hear what a 1930s English gentleman sounds like while simultaneously being tickled by his misfortunes, this is the audiobook for you. The production quality is impeccable, with no distracting audio artifacts, and the runtime flies by in what feels like minutes. A must-listen for fans of classic comedy.
